Study visit of Lower Silesian local government officials, scientific representatives and NGOs to Saxony

The exchange of experience and best practice in the preparation and implementation of projects that, by their nature, respond to the challenges of equitable transformation of the Wałbrzych sub-region is the aim of another visit of the FST Working Group. This time, Lower Silesian local government officials, representatives of scientific entities and NGOs visited Saxony.

A study visit within the framework of the project "Supporting the implementation of the Fair Transition Fund in the Wałbrzych sub-region" took place on 25-26 November. This time, thanks to the cooperation with the Saxon Ministry of Regional Development, we visited institutions that have been implementing projects for the transformation of the region for many years. On 25 November, we observed the changes taking place at Stadtwerke Görlitz. The company is a regional energy and environmental service provider, responsible for the supply of electricity, natural gas, drinking water and heat, as well as the disposal of waste water in an environmentally friendly manner. It also provides municipal lighting and high-speed internet. It also implements a project for the diversification of heat sources and the use of RES, including in cooperation with the City of Zgorzelec. The second point of the visit was the City of Hoyerswrda, which, since the early 1990s, has been consistently implementing measures for the reclamation of post-mining areas and the wide-ranging economic, social and professional activation of its inhabitants following the fracturing of its main industries.

The second day of the visit was devoted to modern solutions for the storage of electricity, energy, hydrogen. The visit to LEAG in Boxberg, one of the largest energy companies in the eastern part of Germany, focused on the changes required for the transition from lignite-based energy to solar and hydrogen energy.
