The Lower Silesian Voivodship was awarded the title of Regional Innovation Valley by the European Commission on June 19
Regional Innovation Valleys (RIV) is a new European Commission`s initiative for national or regional public administrations, which aims to better connect the potential of more innovative regions with emerging regions such as Lower Silesia. This synergy will help meet the most pressing challenges facing the European Union, namely reducing dependence on fossil fuels, increasing global food security, responding to the challenges of digital transformation (including cyber security), improving healthcare and supporting the construction of a closed loop economy.
The idea behind this initiative is also to create conditions for the development of breakthrough innovations and to intensify their commercialisation in individual regions, as well as to stimulate cooperation between different EU countries at interregional level. The awarding of the title of Regional Innovation Valley is proof of the region's competence and commitment to the development and dissemination of innovation, as well as its readiness to act jointly with other regions (from other countries) in the chosen technological area.
A tool will be received to enable more effective implementation of the Strategy and cooperation on interregional innovation projects by the Self-Government of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, as the implementer of the Lower Silesian Innovation Strategy 2030 and manager of regional smart specialisations.
